The Nonprofit Center was founded in 1967 as an association of nonprofit organizations. With nearly 400 member organizations, the Nonprofit Center is one of the largest associations of nonprofit organizations in the Greater Milwaukee Area.  The Center provides technical assistance, consultation, workshops, organizing training, mapping for neighborhoods, research support, conference planning, and information and referral through the following programs:

Finance Center

A technical resource that was created to meet real needs. Our research surveys revealed a demand for more resources to support the financial responsibilities required of nonprofit organizations. The Finance Center offers concrete solutions to real challenges in nonprofit financial management through training, consulting and contracted services. We also sponsor periodic roundtables for accounting staff, financial decision-makers, board treasurers and finance committees. Finally, the Finance Center maintains a financial library and lab - a resource to nonprofits in the areas of financial software, policy and procedure templates, and financial manuals.

Resource Center

One of the leading sources of training and technical assistance in southeastern Wisconsin.  Through the Resource Center, nonprofit agencies receive training and consultation designed to meet the unique needs of individual agencies.  It offers year-round trainings that cover a variety of areas including board development, strategic planning, fund-raising, human resources, public relations, marketing and financial management.  A quarterly newsletter, telephone information and referral, publications, and videotapes are also offered.

Data Center

A technical resource that collects and distributes maps and information profiling Milwaukee neighborhoods. The Data Center produces data, maps, reports and analyses to allow organizations to better plan and develop programs that address the problems of Milwaukee neighborhoods. The program offers micro-analyses of neighborhoods and assists neighborhood-based staff with accessing information, interpreting its importance to the neighborhood, and developing the local capacity to use such information.  (See a sample of maps produced in a profile of the Making Connections Program neighborhood.)

Management Assistance Program (MAP)

MAP consists of a pool of consultants who provide services and consultation to Milwaukee-area nonprofit organizations through the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee.  These consultants are recruited by the Nonprofit Center and the Volunteer Center of Greater Milwaukee and come from various professional backgrounds.  They share their expertise in various areas including organizational management, strategic planning, program review and evaluation, fundraising/resource development, conflict resolution and a host of other areas pertaining to strengthening agency capacity.
