Children Ready to Succeed in School

Results Statement: Children are ready for school, schools are ready for children, and the community is ready for children and school.

Over the last several years, opportunities for child care have increased dramatically.  State child care subsidy for working families provides a choice among a variety of alternatives.  An estimated 3,500 children in the Making Connections area received child care subsidy in 2004.  The revenue flowing to child care providers within Making Connections is estimated to be greater than $15 million in 2004.

The Making Connections area has a large number of child care programs – nearly 300.    36 are child care Group centers that are larger and serve the majority of children.  147 are Family programs with 8 or fewer children.  The least formal Certified and Provisional programs are also regulated the least.  The most thorough quality assessment process – accreditation – has only been completed by one child care Group center.
