One illustration of asset building has been the accomplishments of the Hmong-American settlement in the Making Connections area.  Over the last 15 years, households living elsewhere in Milwaukee choose to relocate to the neighborhood.  Making Connections is now home to the largest settlement of Hmong-Americans in Milwaukee .  Progress has been dramatic.  Median incomes of Hmong-American households in the Making Connections area increased from $12,426 in 1990 to $32,965 in 2000 ─ an increase of 165%.  The median income for households county-wide increased 98% in this period.  Within all of Making Connections the increase was 42%.

A substantial proportion of Hmong-American households in the Making Connections community are now homeowners.  The map illustrates the focused area within the Walnut Hills neighborhood where most Hmong-Americans live.  253 homeowners are shown on the map.  Another 203 households who are renting property are not shown.
