Good information on community levels of credit status is not available.  But of 10 participants in a recent Making Connections leadership training program, 5 were required to arrange for credit counseling to repair credit issues.

Although 56% of single and duplex homes are owner occupied, 72% of all households are renters.  Many residents will remain renters if their income does not improve.  Other households will be able to own homes if programs are able to provide affordable options.  (These subjects are discussed in the Washington Park Partners section.)

Those who own homes are struggling as well.  Housing costs are often above the recommended 35% of income.  The Making Connections area has experienced very high rates of foreclosure.  Access to mortgages is dominated by sub-prime lenders.
