Population

As a community with many duplex homes, the Making Connections area is densely populated.  In 1970, 42,809 persons lived here.   This fell to 30,449 by 2000.  Much of the population loss occurred as deteriorating housing was removed.  Even after losing 31% of its population, the area remains one of the most densely populated in the city of Milwaukee .

Making Connections is largely a segregated, primarily African American community. The segregation is reflective of housing patterns in the region.  Only 1.6% of the suburban population in the four primary metropolitan counties is African American. 93.8% of Blacks in the four counties live in the city. Parts of Making Connections are diverse, however, and celebrate that diversity.
